Medical Services
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of disorders that damage the optic nerve, gradually stealing sight without warning. In the early stages of the disease, there may be no symptoms. However, a comprehensive eye exam can detect it. Medical experts estimate that half of the people affected by glaucoma may not even know they have it. There is no cure for glaucoma, however, early detection and treatment with medication or surgery can slow or prevent further vision loss and the progression of the disease.
People at risk should have eye exams at least once a year. Those people include:
EyeCare Associates is one of the few medical clinics in Oklahoma that utilizes the SLT which is selective laser tibeculoplasty. The SLT is a laser that helps in the drainage part of the eye. It uses light to help the body clean up the pigment cells and debris and lower the pressure on the eye. The SLT is becoming the new way to treat glaucoma. It provides a viable option to medications, which can have side effects.
Diabetic Eye Exams
If you are diabetic you should see your eye care professional at least once a year for a dilated eye exam. Having your regular doctor look at your eyes is not enough, nor is having your eyeglass prescription tested by an optician.
Only optometrists and ophthalmologists can detect the signs of retinopathy and only ophthalmologists can treat it.
Annual Diabetic Eye Exams are necessary if:
Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy is the weakening or changes in the small blood vessels, due to diabetes, that nourish the eye's light sensitive retina. Diabetic retinopathy can seriously affect vision. If left untreated, it can cause blindness. Diabetic retinopathy is estimated to be the most frequent cause of new cases of blindness among adults 20 to 60 years of age.
EyeCare Associates uses a fundus camera to detect diabetic retinopathy. A fundus camera is a specialized low power microscope with an attached camera. It is designed to photograph the interior surface of the eye, making it an effective tool to diagnose and treat diabetic retinopathy. The doctors at EyeCare Associates also use fundus to record and monitor the condition of the eye structures, which in turn can help diagnose the presence of disorders.
Cataracts
A Cataract is the clouding of the natural lens, the part of the eye responsible for focusing light and producing clear, sharp images. If a patient complains of foggy vision, the doctors will test for cataracts. They can repair cataracts by surgically replacing the natural lens with an artificial lens inside the eye. EyeCare Associates offers patients the latest multi-focal intraocular lens implants (IOL), which are sometimes used in cataract surgery.

Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration (AMD) is a common eye disease that causes the deterioration of the macula, which, in turn, results in the development of blind spots and blurred or distorted vision. When the macula becomes damaged, many daily activities such as driving and reading become increasingly difficult.

Keratoconus
A non-inflammatory distortion of the cornea, which is associated with a reduction in visual acuity which is the accuracy of the eye to focus.. Corneal scarring can occur in more advanced cases along with further reduction of visual acuity.

Intacs®
Intacs® are two plastic segments that are inserted within the non-seeing periphery of the cornea. Intacs® reshape the curvature of the cornea from within, enhancing the natural shape of the eye to correct mild nearsightedness. Intacs® can be removed or exchanged for different sized segments, and maintain a more natural corneal shape which may provide better vision than LASIK.

Benefits of Intacs® for the treatment of keratoconus:
Not everyone with keratoconus will be a candidate for the Intacs® procedure.
EyeCare Associates utilizes the latest technology to diagnose diseases of the eye, including:
OCT
Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a state-of-the-art diagnostic technology that provides direct, real-time, cross sectional images of the retina. The OCT scans an infrared red light across the retina, which generates a cross sectional image of the tissues in great detail. The test is quick, requires no dilation, and enables the doctor to view and accurately measure structural changes in the retina. The high-resolution images produced by OCT allow for early diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of conditions, including glaucoma, macular edema, macular hole, and age-related macular degeneration.
HVF
The Humphrey Visual Field (HVF) analyzer is a sophisticated instrument used to provide a computerized measure of peripheral vision. The analyzer can detect visual field defects before they become symptomatic. The HVF is an essential tool in the detection and management of a variety of eye and central nervous system diseases, including glaucoma, stroke, and brain tumors.
