Cataract

What is a cataract?

A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens inside your eye. Most of the time, it is caused by natural aging changes. Diet, vitamins, eye drops or lasers will not correct cataracts. The only option for the correction of your cataract is a surgical procedure. In cataract surgery, the doctor will replace your natural lens with a new artificial lens. Cataract surgery is the most commonly performed medical procedure in the world.

Dry Eye

What is a dry eye?

Dry eye is a condition in which a person doesn’t have enough quality tears to lubricate and nourish the eye. Tears are necessary for maintaining the health of the front surface of the eye and for providing clear vision. Dry eye is a common and often chronic condition.

What EyeCare Associates offers?

  • Drops – Prescribed eye drops.
  • Punctal Plugs – A small medical device that is inserted into the tear duct (puncta) of an eye to block the duct. This prevents the drainage of liquid from the eye.
  • IPL – A polychromatic light that stimulates the Meibomian glands to resume normal activities.
  • Light Modulation – Emits a particular light – to a certain wavelength – triggers an endogenous heating of the eyelids.
  • LipiView/LipiFlow – The only FDA cleared procedure for removing gland blockages and restoring gland function.

Retina

Diabetic Eye Exam:

Diabetes can weaken or strain the blood vessels and this can result in hemorrhaging in the retina.

LASIK

What is LASIK?

LASIK (Laser-Assisted-In-Situ Keratomileusis) is an FDA-approved outpatient procedure that uses an excimer laser to correct your vision by reshaping your cornea. LASIK treats nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism . LASIK is one of the most frequently performed healthcare procedures in North America.

The LASIK Procedure
Flap Creation

Dr. Langley will use a laser to create a very thin flap of tissue on the outer layers of your cornea.

Laser Reshapes Cornea

After lifting the flap, Dr. Langley then uses a laser, programmed with a unique map of your eye, to reshape your cornea.

Flap Returned To Position

Finally, Dr. Langley carefully lays the flap of tissue back down to heal, like a bandage.

Procedure Complete

Many patients go home, take a long nap and wake to find their vision has noticeably improved. Vision continues to improve after the procedure.

PRK

What is PRK?

Like LASIK, PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy) utilizes an excimer laser to reshape the curvature of the eye and treats nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. PRK differs from LASIK as no flap is created during the procedure. Custom PRK yields the same excellent visual results as Custom LASIK. Patients with thin corneas, significant corneal scarring and other corneal conditions can benefit from PRK.

Glaucoma

What is glaucoma?

Glaucoma occurs when pressure builds up in the eye. The pressure pinches the blood vessels that carry blood to the retina and optic nerve. Vision is gradually lost because the retina and nerve are damaged.

Healthy Eye Vs An Eye With Glaucoma

What EyeCare Associates offers:

  • Medication – Eye drops are often the first-line of therapy.
  • Laser Procedures – The most common type performed is called Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT). This is an in-office procedure that targets the eye’s drainage system to facilitate better aqueous outflow to decrease the pressure.
  • Surgery – When the pressure remains high despite on-going treatments, surgical procedures such as trabeculectomy and valve implants can help.

Floaters

What are floaters?

Floaters look like small specks, dots, circles, lines or cobwebs in your field of vision. While they seem to be in front of your eye, they are floating inside. Floaters are tiny clumps of gel or cells inside the vitreous that fills your eye. What you see are the shadows these clumps cast on your retina.

Healthy Eye Vs An Eye With Glaucoma

What EyeCare Associates offers:

Smart-V (Vitreolysis) is a non-invasive, pain-free procedure that uses laser light to eliminate the visual disturbances caused by floaters. By providing a functional improvement, it is our goal that you may return to normal day-to-day activities by removing the hinderance caused by floaters. Many insurance plans provide coverage for this procedure.
