LASIK

What is LASIK?

LASIK (Laser-Assisted-In-Situ Keratomileusis) is an FDA-approved outpatient procedure that uses an excimer laser to correct your vision by reshaping your cornea. LASIK treats nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism . LASIK is one of the most frequently performed healthcare procedures in North America.

The LASIK Procedure
Flap Creation

Dr. Langley will use a laser to create a very thin flap of tissue on the outer layers of your cornea.

Laser Reshapes Cornea

After lifting the flap, Dr. Langley then uses a laser, programmed with a unique map of your eye, to reshape your cornea.

Flap Returned To Position

Finally, Dr. Langley carefully lays the flap of tissue back down to heal, like a bandage.

Procedure Complete

Many patients go home, take a long nap and wake to find their vision has noticeably improved. Vision continues to improve after the procedure.

PRK

What is PRK?

Like LASIK, PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy) utilizes an excimer laser to reshape the curvature of the eye and treats nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. PRK differs from LASIK as no flap is created during the procedure. Custom PRK yields the same excellent visual results as Custom LASIK. Patients with thin corneas, significant corneal scarring and other corneal conditions can benefit from PRK.

The PRK Procedure
Outer Layer Of Cornea Removed

Your surgeon removes the outer layer of the cornea to expose an area for the laser to reshape. This tissue will grow back.

Laser Reshapes Cornea

Then a laser is used that has been programmed with a unique map of your eye, to reshape your cornea.

Bandage Contact Applied

Finally, your surgeon gives you prescription eye drops and a bandage contact lens to help your cornea heal.

Procedure Complete

Healing may take more time with PRK versus LASIK.
